PORTLAND, Maine – In celebration of his inaugural season, and offering a taste of his artistic vision as Music Director, Robert Moody hosts PSO @ SPACE, a first-ever collaboration between the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and Portland’s SPACE Gallery on Sunday, October 5.

Composer Mason Bates, with a portfolio of orchestral, chamber, theatrical, and electronic works, is also known as DJ and electronica artist Masonic. He has mixed his unique blend of jazzy hip-hop, trip-hop, French house, and funk at venues from San Francisco to Berlin to Rome, and makes his Portland debut “spinning” ambient music and his own electronic compositions. Sharing the stage will be the ISQ (Yasmin Craig Vitalius, PSO violinist; Nathan Kolosko, classical guitar; Al Giusto, resonator guitar; and Catherine Stambach, acoustic bass) performing their unique blend of improvisational works.

Also represented will be Portland’s We Push Buttons, a webzine/forum/portal dedicated to uniting and promoting Portland Maine’s growing electronic music scene and presenting it to the global community.

PSO @ SPACE begins at 7:00 p.m. at SPACE Gallery, 538 Congress Street in Portland. Tickets for this 18+ performance are $5 and available at available online at Brownpapertickets.com, by calling (800) 838-3006, in person at any Bull Moose store, or at the door the night of the event.

In addition to his performance at SPACE, Bates will also perform with the Portland Symphony Orchestra at the PSO’s opening night celebration on Tuesday, October 7 where they will perform Bates’ Liquid Interface, commissioned and recently premiered by the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
