PIANIST STEWART GOODYEAR TO REPLACE YUJA WANG FOR PSO'S “SPIRIT OF RUSSIA ” PERFORMANCE, APRIL 1

(More news)
The Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) announced today that pianist Stewart Goodyear has graciously agreed to replace Yuja Wang for the upcoming Tuesday Classical concert on April 1. With deep regret, Wang was forced to cancel due to uncontrollable changes in her tour schedule. The program remains unchanged, with Goodyear performing as soloist for Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, considered by many to be one of the most difficult and complex piano concertos. Also on the all-Russian program are Glinka’s Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla and Symphony No. 9 by Shostakovich. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be conducted by PSO Artistic Advisor Joseph Silverstein.

Known for his graceful, elegant style, gifted imagination and exquisite technique, twenty-five year old Stewart Goodyear has established a reputation as an accomplished and rising young artist. He has performed with many of the major orchestras of the world – including five separate appearances to date with the Philadelphia Orchestra, in addition to performances with the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields among many others. In a recent review, the San Francisco Chronicle called his performance, “...crisp, emotionally radiant,” and that it “combined dexterity and sensitivity in equal measure. Goodyear’s delivery of this music was breathtaking.”

Tickets for all PSO performances can be ordered online at www.porttix.com, by phone at 207-842-0800, or at the PortTix box office, 20 Myrtle St. , Monday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Discounts are available for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more.
