PORTLAND, Maine – Summer will be in full swing with picnics, fireworks and family fun at the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s (PSO) annual summer concerts. Independence Pops will be held in four scenic locations throughout southern Maine. This year’s concert dates and locations are:
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and gates open 2 hours prior. Free parking is available at all sites.
These concerts are the first that Robert Moody will be conducting after formally assuming the title of Music Director of the Portland Symphony. Maestro Moody has assembled an exhilarating program featuring the world-class artistry of the PSO joined by soprano Jenn Raithel-Newman, voted an “audience favorite” by The Arizona Republic. In keeping with tradition, Independence Pops will include Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, an Armed Forces Tribute medley, and other patriotic favorites. Each concert will conclude with a thrilling fireworks display.
Tickets go on sale Monday, May 5 through www.porttix.com, by phone at 207-842-0800, or at the PortTix box office, 20 Myrtle St., Monday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Ticket prices have been lowered to make it easier for families to attend and get to know Robert Moody. Advance tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and groups of 10 or more. Tickets at the gate are $20. Children under 18 can now attend for just $10, whether in advance or at the gate. No tickets are required for children ages 2 and under.
