PORTLAND, Maine – On Tuesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents a program of stunning vocal works culminating with Brahms’ masterpiece Ein deutsche Requiem (“A German Requiem”). The program includes Haydn’s magnificent “Te Deum,” Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915,” a richly textured work set to excerpts from James Agee’s short story “Knoxville,” and Ein deutsche Requiem, one of the most deeply personal and religious works of any century. Conductor Robert Russell leads the Concert Conversation at 6:15 p.m. in the Rehearsal Hall at Merrill Auditorium; this is free for ticket holders.

Soloists Mary Wilson (soprano) and Philip Cutlip (baritone) will join the PSO and Masterworks Chorus of the Choral Art Society to bring this enchanting music to life. Guest conductor Robert Russell, Music Director of the Choral Art Society and professor of music at the University of Southern Maine, has been an integral part of Portland’s music scene for the past 25 years, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award on behalf of his students at USM and honored for his life-long dedication to excellence in choral performance by the Portland Conservatory of Music. The Choral Art Society is a frequent guest of the PSO.

Middle school, high school and college students are invited to attend the final dress rehearsal of the Tuesday March Classical Concert, on Monday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Merrill Auditorium. Students may call (207) 773-6128 ext. 308 to make a reservation. Admission to the final rehearsal is free; reservations are required.

Tickets for all PSO performances can be ordered online at www.porttix.com, by phone at 207-842-0800, or at the PortTix box office, 20 Myrtle St., Monday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Discounts are available for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more. All concerts take place at Merrill Auditorium.
