(More news)
PORTLAND, Maine – The Portland Symphony Orchestra’s Magic of Christmas will be celebrating its 28th production this year and with that the 28th appearance of the Magic of Christmas Chorus. Of the over 130 volunteer members of the chorus, six singers have been with the show for twenty-five years or more.

These long-term members are:

· Ruth Doyle of Gorham who has been with the chorus for 27 years

· Joanne Jenssen of Portland who has been with the chorus for 27 years

· Beth Eastman of Scarborough who has been with the chorus for 25 years

· Janice Tisdale of Portland who has been with the chorus for 27 years

· Susan Fitzgerald of Scarborough who has been with the chorus for 25 years

· Ervin Kimball of Gorham who has been with the chorus for 27 years

“We have an absolutely outstanding chorus for Magic of Christmas each year and these veterans provide a wonderful level of stability and leadership to the newer chorus members,” notes Ari Solotoff, executive director of Portland Symphony Orchestra. “Their commitment, and the commitment of all the volunteer members, is very impressive considering the amount of time spent in rehearsals and at the concerts. Their love for the music and spirit of Christmas comes through clearly in each show through their songs.”

The Magic of Christmas Chorus is a group of over 130 volunteers who are members or friends of the Portland Community Chorus. They have spent a total of 24 hours in rehearsal beginning in October, and most members will perform in at least ten of fourteen concerts. Every year singers come from as many as 27 communities extending from York to Brunswick and Baldwin to Otisfield. They represent a varied range of vocations including homemakers, students, nurses, educators, retirees, and executives.

Magic of Christmas is sponsored by Hannaford Supermarkets, IDEXX Laboratories, KeyBank and Northeast Delta Dental.

A total of fourteen performances run December 14 - 23, with morning, afternoon and evening shows. Tickets can be ordered online at www.porttix.com, at the PortTix box office, 20 Myrtle St., Monday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., or by phone, 207-842-0800.
