Grew up: Portland, Maine
Started playing: 10 years old
Education: Early cello studies in Portland with Katherine Graffam. Other primary cello teachers: David Wells, Paul Olevsky, Bernard Greenhouse, Raya Garbousova, Harvey Shapiro. Undergrad performance degree from State University of NY/Albany, Master's performance degree from Univ. Maine/Orono, Maine public school teaching certification.
Began with PSO: I performed first with the PSO as Portland High School student during my junior and senior years! Officially began as assistant principal cello Sept. 1983.
Favorite music: Bach/St. Matthew Passion, Bartok/Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste and too many pieces of chamber music to mention here.
In my iPod: My pod? Three little pole beans.
Hobbies: Avid swimmer/walker (especially near the ocean) and 'square-inch' gardener. Travel. Sharing a good bottle of wine with friends and family.
Ensemble: I am the founder/director and one of many performers for ENCORE! (www.encorrrr.com). Along with family members and many PSO colleagues we perform engagements throughout Maine all year long.
Teacher: My wife Clorinda and I own and operate Noyes Suzuki Studios. We provide private lessons and group classes for over 50 cello and violin students throughout the school year and during the summer.
