Education & Community

The Portland Symphony Orchestra has a long and proud history of bringing the power of live orchestral music to tens of thousands of children and adults throughout New England each year through its KinderKonzerts, Youth Concerts, and other educational programs.

KinderKonzerts  Explore the different families of orchestral instruments while introducing children to live symphonic music through fun and interactive programs with PSO musicians. Concerts are 35-40 minutes in length. (Ages 3-7)*

Youth Concerts  Students hear a full symphony orchestra playing richly diverse styles of music, while learning about the elements of orchestral music and instruments. Held at Merrill Auditorium, concerts are approximately 50 minutes in length. (Ages 8-12)*

Open Dress Rehearsals
Select Portland Symphony Orchestra dress rehearsals are open for students to hear a professional orchestra at work on stage at Merrill Auditorium. Dress rehearsals are free but availability is limited, so call to make a reservation. (Grades 7-12, College)

Musically Speaking is a series of insightful discussions with PSO artists in various venues throughout the community. (All ages)

Concert Conversations
Prior to each Tuesday and Sunday Classical concert, these informative events are free to concertgoers and provide insight into the music and artists performing that day. Held in the Rehearsal Hall at Merrill Auditorium 1 hour and 15 minutes before the concert. (Ticket holders)

PostConcert Q&A's
Join Music Director Robert Moody following select concerts for an informal discussion and question-and-answer session. PostConcert Q&A's are held on stage at Merrill Auditorium and start approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the concert. (Ticket holders)
