Frequently Asked Questions

What if I can't use my tickets?
Subscribers may exchange their tickets for any other subscription concert within the same season (not for Magic of Christmas or Special Events). Please arrange for any exchanges at least 24 hours before the performance. Subscribers may also turn their tickets back for a tax-donation receipt for the value of the tickets. Tickets must be turned back at least 24 hours prior to the performance.

If you are not a subscriber and cannot use your tickets, we encourage you to give them to a friend or  colleague to enjoy. You can also inquire at local social service organizations such as Portland West or Boys & Girls Club whether they might be able to pass your tickets along to a family who might not otherwise be able to come to the PSO.

Sorry, but we are not able to offer refunds. Artists and programs are subject to change without notice, as is your schedule.

I can't find my tickets!
Tickets can be reprinted for a $1 per ticket fee. Please allow extra time before the concert for the box office to help you.

Can I bring my children or grandchildren?
It depends on the concert and on the age (and attention span) of the kids. Many standard-length classical concerts require an attention span that is difficult for youngsters to maintain, but some children enjoy the experience of hearing and seeing the full symphony orchestra.

If your child causes a disturbance for other patrons, an usher may ask you to take him our her outside the auditorium. Re-entry is at the discretion of management.

All patrons, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the theater. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian and must have a ticket for a seat adjacent to the adult. Children under 18 are entitled to the Child/Student discount price (when applicable).

Do you offer student or senior discounts?
Full-time students and children under 18 are eligible for subscription and single-ticket discounts in most seating areas. Senior citizens over the age of 65 are entitled to a discount in most seating areas. Simply view the price chart by each event to determine the student or senior discount.

Student ticket vouchers, good for even deeper discounts, are made available to select concerts through local universities including Southen Maine Community College, University of New England, University of Southern Maine, and Bowdoin College. To inquire about accessing student discount vouchers for your school, call (207) 773-6128.

Groups of 10 or more are also eligible for discounts and other great benefits. For more information, visit our Group Sales page.

How long are concerts?
Most concerts are two hours, including a 15-20 minute intermission.

What should I wear?
There is no dress code! Most people will be wearing business clothes or slightly dressy casual clothes, but you’ll see everything from khakis to cocktail dresses. Some people enjoy dressing up and making a special event out of their PSO concert experience, others prefer to relax and focus on their ears rather than their outfits. Anything that makes you feel comfortable is fine.
